“Christopher is a patient and kind teacher with a deep knowledge of vocal technique and performance. Before working with Christopher, I did not know how to blend my chest and head voice, nor properly support my singing. Although I had no background in classical singing, Christopher taught me fundamental technique principles, improving the quality of my sound and vocal range in both classical and other genres.”

“Taking lessons with Christopher is one of the smartest choices I’ve made. Christopher gave me the technical tools and encouragement needed to get accepted to masters programs in voice at several of the top music schools in the United States. The lessons are engaging, insightful, and fun - he is truly an expert. If you are studying with Christopher, you are in good hands!”

“While studying classical guitar at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, I had an opportunity to hear Mr. Grundy in concert. I was blown away by his voice, interpretation and personality. Such a talented, yet humble artist.

I believe singing is very important for every instrumentalist in order to understand proper phrasing in music. This is the reason I started taking voice lessons.

I had the pleasure to work with Mr. Grundy as a graduate student at Indiana University. He turned what technically seemed impossible for me at the very beginning into reality. I was surprised myself at how greatly my voice range expanded, with improved pronunciation and pitch, and most importantly I gained confidence while singing. This is something I believe every artist should have - confidence on the stage to be able to easily share music and communicate with the audience.

Mr. Grundy’s tremendous knowledge of music, impeccable artistry and experience on the stage is something he gladly transfers to his pedagogical work and his students. I am proud to say he was my voice teacher. ”

“Christopher’s teaching focuses on what the individual student needs to develop. He carefully works in exercises which will work the students weak spots while still improving their strengths. As my first voice teacher, he helped create an environment which made me feel my voice was worth training and boosted my confidence. His love for music is evident in his philosophy of ‘if you like it, sing it’ regardless of original key or setting. Christopher believes in developing all areas of the voice, including falsetto which I found very interesting. Being a pianist, he also encouraged me to sing and accompany myself. Since then, I have developed this skill and found it to be useful for coaching or just reading music with friends. Playing and singing is uncommon for art songs but his encouragement of this skill shows he does not subscribe to the rigid norms of ‘classical’ singing. All this together makes Christopher’s teaching breath of fresh air.”

“I studied voice with Christopher for close to two years. At the time, I was wanting to take lessons just for my satisfaction. When I met Christopher, I told him that I was looking for a teacher that would challenge me and give me honest feedback. As our lessons progressed, so did my goals. Christopher inspired me to dedicate more of myself to music by introducing me to the works of Barber, Lully, and Chiabrera. He encouraged me to even audition for university programs because he had faith in me. In our lessons, he taught me a variety of skills that I have used as a performer, in business, and in life. Skills like critical thinking, analysis, and tenacity. He wasn’t just another voice teacher; he was a genuine mentor to me.

Christopher has a rare talent as a teacher and is one of those few teachers that can impact your life. He did mine. I wholeheartedly recommend Christopher as a voice instructor and wish good luck to all of his students.”

-Cody Sims

Cody has gone on to complete his Masters Degree, Summa Cum Laude, at the Berkelee College of Music.

“As an older singer, I was lucky to meet Christopher, and ended up taking weekly lessons with him for several years. He helped me particularly with my lower notes and introduced me to a lot of new repertoire. He never puts himself in a superior position to the student, but is equally willing to learn from them as well as teach them. He is definitely not a ‘one method fits all’ teacher, adapting his coaching to the specific techniques and exercises that will aid each singer to achieve maximum results over time. I found every lesson with Christopher enjoyable and well worth the time and expense.

I still make use of many of the techniques and vocal exercises that we jointly discovered over the course of my lessons, and I continue to enjoy better breathing, easier production, and more enjoyable singing as a result of my years studying with Christopher. People still want me to hear me sing!”

“I took voice lessons with Christopher during his last year in his doctoral program at the distinguished Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. Although I am an amateur, he was insistent on not cutting corners with respect to vocal techniques, so that I would not develop bad habits which would be difficult to unlearn. Furthermore, he taught by showing details in how to sustain a melodic line, and maintaining resonance in the delivery a pianissimo.

I am planning on continuing lessons with Christopher via Zoom, and recommend others to do the same in person or via Zoom.”
